Forecasters predict that rain, which may start intermittently on Wednesday, will intensify and become persistent and heavy, particularly over higher ground, as the week progresses.
This prolonged downpour carries a substantial risk of localised flooding. The Met Office has indicated that widespread rainfall totals of 30mm to 60mm are expected, with the potential for accumulations of up to 120mm on elevated terrain exposed to strong southeasterly winds.
