A devastating coach crash in Turkey's popular Antalya province has resulted in nine fatalities and left twenty-one people injured, with seven individuals reported to be in a critical condition. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of February 1st, casting a shadow over the Mediterranean tourism hotspot.

The intercity bus was travelling overnight from Tekirdag in the northwest towards the coastal destination when it lost control on a highway slip road in the Dosemealti district. According to Provincial Governor Hulusi Sahin, the vehicle appeared to be speeding despite adverse weather conditions, including heavy fog and wet ground from recent rainfall.
Emergency services mounted a significant rescue operation to assist passengers who were either trapped inside or thrown from the coach during the crash. Reports from the DHA news agency indicate that some individuals were ejected as the bus smashed through roadside barriers, rolled down an embankment, and came to rest on its side in a ravine.
Investigation Launched into Crash Causes
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc has confirmed that a judicial investigation is now underway to determine the precise cause of the accident. One deputy chief prosecutor and two public prosecutors have been assigned to examine the case thoroughly.
Authorities are exploring several potential factors, including:
- Excessive speed on a road unsuitable for such conditions
- Possible mechanical failure of the vehicle
- Human error by the driver, who reportedly lost control approaching a multi-level intersection
