Seven Hospitalised After Serious A1 Head-On Crash in Northumberland
A stretch of the A1 in Northumberland was closed in both directions following a horrific head-on collision on Saturday evening, resulting in eight casualties and seven people being rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The two-vehicle crash occurred near Purdey Lodge, leading to the closure of the major A-road between the B1340 at Denwick and the A1167 at Berwick Upon Tweed for several hours. Emergency services were called to the scene at 7.30pm, with a significant response including four ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crew.
Injuries and Response
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed that eight patients were treated in total. Two victims sustained serious injuries to the head and leg, while a further six suffered minor injuries. The road remained closed until Sunday morning, with National Highways deploying resources to assist with traffic management during the closure.
