Met Office Issues Snow Warnings for 31 UK Areas Including Birmingham

The Met Office has named 31 parts of the United Kingdom that are facing snow before Friday, February 20, 2026. A series of yellow warnings for snow and rain have been issued, with Birmingham and the West Midlands Conurbation both included in the alerts. These warnings are active for Wednesday, February 18, and Thursday, February 19, with hopes that any wintry conditions will subside by Friday.

Cold Health Alert Issued by UKHSA

In addition to the weather warnings, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a yellow cold health alert for most of England as Arctic air sweeps across the country. This alert covers regions such as the East Midlands, East of England, North East, North West, West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the South West. The agency warns that the cold weather is likely to have minor impacts on health and social care services, including increased use of healthcare resources and a greater risk to vulnerable individuals.

Weather Forecast Details

The BBC Weather team provided further insight, stating that on Tuesday, after a fine but cold start, another band of frontal rain will push across the UK from the south-west. This will be preceded by a period of snow or sleet, mainly affecting the northern half of the country. Conditions are expected to become milder, but further temperature fluctuations are anticipated in the second half of the week as low-pressure systems track near the UK, bringing changeable weather with short-lived chilly north-westerly winds.

Jo Farrow from Netweather TV added that Arctic air will surge down through the UK at the start of the week, with high pressure briefly building. Where skies remain clear, there will be daytime sunshine, but temperatures will plummet by night, increasing the risk of ice. During the middle of the week, an Atlantic low-pressure system will attempt to push over the UK but may struggle due to blocking high pressure.
