UK Snow Warning: Met Office Names Affected Areas Before Friday

Met Office Identifies UK Regions Braced for Snowfall Before Friday

The Met Office has issued a detailed weather warning, naming all the UK areas expected to experience snowfall before Friday, February 6th. As Thursday, February 5th, dawns across the nation, forecasters are alerting residents to further spells of wet and intermittently windy conditions that are set to dominate.

Unsettled Weather Pattern to Bring Widespread Disruption

In its latest online outlook, the Met Office anticipates that Thursday will deliver some bright spells, primarily in the northwest, but most locations will remain cloudy and wet. Outbreaks of rain, some heavy, are forecast especially across southern and southwestern England, south Wales, and initially eastern Scotland.

The national weather service has provided a written forecast covering Thursday through to Monday, February 9th, pinpointing areas likely to see flurries of snow before the new working week commences. The regions identified as facing snow, accompanied by a cold wind, include:

  • Hilly areas across the UK
  • The north of England specifically

Detailed Forecast for the Coming Days

The Met Office stated: "It will be mostly cloudy overnight with further rain and snow falling on hills, especially in the north. Cold and windy in the north, less windy and milder further south."

Looking ahead to Friday, the forecast predicts rain in most areas, with snow persisting on northern hills, and conditions remaining generally rather windy. While the northwest may see brighter intervals, heavy showers are expected towards the southwest.

Weekend Outlook Remains Unsettled

Examining the weekend, the Met Office adds: "The weather will remain unsettled throughout the period. All areas will have further rain at times, some heavy. Often rather windy, with further snow and ice possible in the north."

The BBC Weather team has corroborated this outlook with its own weekend forecast. The BBC indicates that Saturday will be unsettled with showers and patchy rain in the south, though turning drier and brighter later. Further north, conditions will be drier, but spells of rain will continue in northeastern Scotland.

Sunday is expected to bring a drier and milder day for many, with rain clearing northwards, leaving variable cloud and a few showers. Monday will see another cloudy day with spells of rain pushing northwards from the south, maintaining the pattern of unsettled weather.
