Wolverhampton house fire: Police cordon after overnight blaze

Emergency services were called to a significant house fire in Wolverhampton on Saturday night, with police sealing off the scene the following morning.

Emergency Response to Wendover Road Blaze

Four fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service rushed to a property on Wendover Road in Wolverhampton shortly before 10pm on January 17. The control room confirmed the first call was received at 9.50pm. Firefighters worked through the night to bring the serious blaze under control, a task that was successfully completed by approximately 4am on Sunday, January 18.

During the height of the incident, the fire service used social media platform X to alert the public. In a post at 10.06pm, they stated: "We have four crews in attendance at Wendover Road, Wolverhampton, where they have responded to a fire. Please avoid the area, where possible."

Police Investigation and Scene Cordon

By the morning of January 18, police officers were present at the scene on Wendover Road. A cordon was established around the edge of the fire-damaged property as the investigation into the cause began. The emergency stage of the incident was declared over, with fire investigators taking over to determine how the blaze started.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service told BirminghamLive: "The cause is under investigation. We had four crews at the scene during the height of the incident. Fire investigators are looking into the cause. We're still revisiting the scene but the emergency stage is over and we left at around 4am today."

No Injuries Reported

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire. This was confirmed by the fire service, which marked a positive outcome given the scale of the response required. The focus now shifts fully to understanding the origins of the fire that required such a substantial emergency service presence in the Black Country area.

The public is advised to continue avoiding the immediate area on Wendover Road while police and fire investigation work continues. West Midlands Police has been contacted for further comment on their ongoing involvement.
