Stockport NHS Catering Team Earns National Award Shortlisting
The catering team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has once again seen its exceptional standards acknowledged with a shortlisting for a prestigious national award. The team is a finalist in the 'Hospital Catering' category at this year's Public Sector Catering Awards, which spotlight the finest achievements across the industry.
Dedicated Service Across Hospital Settings
Comprising chefs and catering assistants, the team delivers quality food services to inpatients on the wards at Stepping Hill Hospital, as well as to staff, visitors, and outpatients in the hospital restaurant. Their daily operations focus on preparing appetising meals using high-quality ingredients, ensuring excellent presentation, and implementing strategies to reduce food waste. These efforts have collectively contributed to their recognition as award finalists.
Commitment to Nutrition and Cultural Diversity
A core aim of the team is to provide high standards of nutrition for patients, visitors, and staff. They enhance this by offering diverse food and recipes from around the world, with special menus developed for theme days that celebrate religious, cultural, and other significant events.
History of Excellence and Previous Accolades
The team has a strong track record of success at the Public Sector Catering Awards in prior years, along with receiving other honours. Notably, they were designated an 'exemplar site' by NHS England, serving as a model for other catering teams. Last year, apprentice chef Joe Omolo was a joint winner of the 'NHS Chef of the Year' title, further highlighting the team's talent and dedication.

The Public Sector Catering Awards honour top catering standards in various sectors, including healthcare, education, care homes, councils, universities, the armed forces, and catering colleges. The Stockport NHS team is one of seven finalists in their category and among only nine NHS organisations shortlisted for the event.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony held at the London Metropole Hotel on Thursday, April 9. Stepping Hill Hospital is located in Stockport, Greater Manchester.
