The May bank holiday has come and gone, leaving just eight bank holidays remaining in the UK calendar for 2026. However, for residents of England, including Birmingham, only three of those days fall within their region.
How Many Bank Holidays Left in England?
England has just three remaining bank holidays in 2026: the Spring bank holiday, the Summer bank holiday, and Christmas Day. The rest of the UK enjoys additional days, with Scotland having a special holiday to celebrate the national football team's World Cup qualification.
Scotland's World Cup Bank Holiday
Buckingham Palace announced in February that Monday, June 15, 2026, would be a bank holiday in Scotland. The proclamation stated: "To mark the achievement of Scotland's men's football team competing at the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 28 years, we consider it desirable that Monday, the fifteenth day of June in the year 2026 should be a bank holiday in Scotland." This was done under section 1(3) of the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971.
