Worcestershire Council Launches £300 Financial Support Scheme

Worcestershire County Council has announced a significant financial support initiative, offering £300 bonus payments to eligible households across the region. This scheme forms part of the broader Household Support Fund administered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), aimed at assisting residents during the ongoing cost of living challenges.

Eligibility Criteria for the Payment

To qualify for this one-off payment, applicants must meet strict financial and vulnerability criteria. Households cannot have savings exceeding £5,000 for each occupant of state pension age, with no other savings permitted. Additionally, at least one household member must be receiving one of the following DWP benefits:

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carers Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Health Allowance (included within Universal Credit)

Required Documentation and Application Process

Applicants must provide specific evidence to support their claim. This includes an energy bill dated within the last three months, showing the supplier, account holder's name, address, and account number. Proof of vulnerability, such as benefit award letters, must also be submitted, ideally dated within the same three-month period.

The council has outlined a two-step application procedure. Initially, residents must complete an online self-certification form. Following this, they will receive a separate application form via post or email, which must be returned with all supporting documents within 28 days. Failure to meet this deadline will result in the claim being closed, necessitating a reapplication.

Council Guidance and Support Channels

Council representatives emphasise the importance of timely submission to avoid delays. They also note that referrals can be made by professional organisations, friends, or family members, broadening access to the scheme. Residents are encouraged to act promptly to secure this vital financial assistance.

This initiative underscores Worcestershire County Council's commitment to supporting vulnerable residents through targeted financial aid, leveraging DWP funds to mitigate the impact of rising living costs.
