DWP Announces May Payment Date Changes for Pensions and Benefits
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a reminder to claimants about upcoming changes to benefit payment dates in May. These adjustments will affect a wide range of recipients, including those on state pensions, Attendance Allowance, and Pension Credit.
Key Payment Date Adjustments
Due to two bank holidays in May, the DWP has rescheduled certain payments. Specifically, benefits scheduled for Monday, May 4 will now be processed on Friday, May 1. Similarly, payments due on Monday, May 25 will be paid on Friday, May 22. This move aims to ensure claimants receive their funds without disruption during the holiday period.
Affected Benefits and Payment Schedules
The changes impact numerous DWP benefits, such as:
- Attendance Allowance
- Carer’s Allowance
- Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Pension Credit
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- State Pension
- Universal Credit
Universal Credit is paid monthly, while other benefits like Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Pension Credit, PIP, and both the new and old state pensions are typically paid every four weeks from the date of the first payment. Carer’s Allowance, tax credits from HMRC, and Child Benefit may be paid weekly or every four weeks.
General Payment Rules and National Insurance Details
If a benefit payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, the DWP follows a standard rule: payments are made on the last working day prior to the due date. This ensures timely access to funds for all claimants.
For state pension recipients, the payment day is determined by the last two digits of their National Insurance number:
- 00 to 019: Monday
- 20 to 39: Tuesday
- 40 to 59: Wednesday
- 60 to 79: Thursday
- 80 to 99: Friday
Claimants are advised to check their specific payment schedules and plan accordingly to avoid any financial inconvenience during the May bank holidays.
