Tewkesbury Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas has been arrested on suspicion of controlling behaviour and assault, according to reports. The MP was taken into custody by Gloucestershire Police on Wednesday night, June 17, and interviewed before being released on bail.
Party Whip Suspended
The Liberal Democrats confirmed on Thursday that Mr Thomas has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of the police investigation. A party spokesperson said: “Cameron Thomas MP has had the party whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation. We are unable to comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”
Police Statement
Gloucestershire Police released a statement on Friday: “On Wednesday (June 17), a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury was arrested on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault. The man was interviewed by officers before later being released on police bail. Inquiries into the allegations made against him are ongoing.”
Background of the MP
Cameron Thomas, a former RAF officer, was elected as the MP for Tewkesbury in the 2024 general election. His party membership is also understood to have been suspended. The investigation continues, and no further details have been released at this time.
