Woman named in Midlands murder probe as suspect questioned

Police have named the woman found dead at a property in Staffordshire as 24-year-old Sarah-Louise Pennington from Stoke-on-Trent. Detectives have been granted extra time to question a 30-year-old male suspect arrested on suspicion of murder.

Discovery and Investigation

Officers were called to Oakwell Court in the Longton area of Stoke at around 3:30am on Sunday, July 12, after reports of a woman's body inside a property. Specialist officers are supporting her family.

Detective Inspector Kirsty Oldfield from the force's major investigations department said: "We’re working incredibly hard to progress our lines of enquiry into this investigation and to support the woman’s family at such a traumatic time."

Cordon and Community Impact

A cordon remains in place at the scene. Oldfield added: "We know the outer cordon is affecting a lot of residents’ access to their homes and we are working to reduce the size of the cordon as soon as we can."

She reassured the community that police are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation and that enquiries are moving at pace. Officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries and providing visible reassurance in the area.

Appeal for Information

Oldfield thanked those who have already provided information and urged anyone else with relevant details to contact Staffordshire Police.
