People receiving six benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Social Security Scotland have been given an update regarding their next payment. Typically, if a payment is due on a bank holiday, it is paid earlier. However, with a bank holiday on Monday, June 15 in Scotland, there will be no change to payment dates this week.
No Change to Payment Dates
Contrary to speculation, payments will not be brought forward to Friday, June 12. The Scottish government declared a bank holiday on June 15 to celebrate the national team's first appearance in a major competition since 1998.
Benefits Affected by Bank Holidays
Bank holiday dates usually affect the following payments: DWP Adult Disability Payment, Carer Support Payment, Child Disability Payment, Pension Age Disability Payment, Scottish Child Payment, and Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance. Best Start Foods payments are not affected by bank holidays in Scotland.
Benefits are typically paid directly into bank, building society, or credit union accounts. If your payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, you are usually paid on the preceding working day.
Official Guidance
The Labour Party government stated: "You’ll be asked for bank, building society or credit union account details when you claim. You can only get paid in a different way if you have problems opening or managing an account. Contact the office that pays your benefit to find out how to get it paid. If you receive Universal Credit, call the Universal Credit helpline."
The DWP website adds: "You can repay benefits and allowances you get but feel you do not need. Write to the department that paid the benefit. Their address will be on any letter you’ve received from them. Include a cheque made payable to the department, along with your National Insurance number and details of the payment, such as the date and the amount."
You can only repay Child Benefit if you’ve been overpaid, according to HMRC and DWP rules on the government website.
