Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment and remain under medical care.

West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision. A spokesperson said: "We were called to Tyburn Road, near the junction of Walker Drive, at around 2:15 am following reports of a serious collision. A 33-year-old man, the driver of a grey Ford Focus, was found seriously injured. Sadly, he died at the scene. Two passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where they remain." The road was closed for several hours but is expected to reopen later this morning.

Police are urging anyone who was in the area at the time of the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, to come forward.
