DWP confirms one-off Friday state pension payment before bank holiday
DWP confirms Friday state pension payment before bank holiday

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that some pensioners will receive their state pension payments on Friday, August 28, instead of the usual date, due to the August bank holiday. The change applies only to those whose regular payment date falls on Monday, August 31, the bank holiday. All other households will receive their money at the usual time.

The DWP does not process payments on bank holidays. As a result, payments due on the bank holiday are brought forward to the nearest working day, which is Friday, August 28. This is a one-off change, and payment dates will return to normal afterwards.

Which payments are affected?

The same early payment arrangement applies to benefit households. This includes Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). The DWP pays money out early to ensure people are not kept waiting longer than necessary.

According to the DWP, the early payment ensures that recipients can pay bills and afford other essentials like the weekly shop. However, people may need to budget carefully, as their cash will have to last longer than usual until the next scheduled payment date.

What pensioners should do

Pensioners and benefit claimants affected by the change should check their bank accounts on Friday, August 28. Those not due a payment on the bank holiday will see no change to their usual schedule.

The DWP has not indicated any further changes to payment dates beyond this one-off adjustment. Households are advised to plan their spending accordingly, as the gap between payments will be extended by one day for those affected.
