Lloyds Banking Group has confirmed the closure of five branches across the West Midlands, with exact dates set for 2026 and 2027. The closures affect Lloyds Bank and Halifax outlets in Willenhall, Cannock, Lichfield, and Wednesbury, as part of a broader UK-wide reduction of physical branches.
Branch Closure Schedule for 2026
In 2026, three branches will shut: Halifax in Cannock, Staffordshire, on September 9; Halifax in Lichfield, Staffordshire, on October 20; and Lloyds Bank in Willenhall, West Midlands, on November 5. The group cited a continued shift toward digital banking as the primary reason for the closures.
2027 Closures and Industry Trends
The following year, Lloyds Bank in Wednesbury, West Midlands, is set to close on March 16, 2027. Across the UK, more than 40 Lloyds Bank branches are expected to close in 2026, with an additional 13 closures planned for the first half of 2027. According to Lloyds Banking Group, customer preferences have moved toward mobile apps, websites, and telephone banking, reducing the need for in-person services.
