The Post Office is preparing for a potential record-breaking festive season, with new data revealing a significant surge in the number of Brits planning to send Christmas gifts through the post.
Festive Posting Traditions on the Rise
A recent survey commissioned by the Post Office shows a notable jump in festive posting intentions. The proportion of people planning to send gifts this year has risen to 33%, up from just 20% last Christmas. Furthermore, over a third of the UK population (34%) views the act of sending parcels and cards as a crucial part of their holiday tradition.
Despite this strong emotional connection to festive mail, planning appears to be lagging. The poll indicates that only a third of senders (33%) intend to have their items posted by early to mid-December. Worryingly, 8% admit they will leave everything until the final week before Christmas Day, a delay that could strain delivery networks during the peak period.
Post Office Urges Public to Act Early
In response to the anticipated demand, the Post Office is urging customers to organise their sending well in advance. The company has identified Friday, December 8, as its expected busiest day across its national network of branches.
Candice Ohandjanian, Post Office Mails and Parcels Director, commented on the forecast: “This Christmas is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet, with nearly three quarters of Brits planning to buy the same number, or even more, gifts for loved ones than last year. And when it comes to sending those carefully chosen presents, the local Post Office remains the main place the public relies on to ensure they arrive safely.”
A Central Hub for Multiple Carriers
Post Office branches continue to serve as a vital logistical hub during the holidays. They provide collection and drop-off services not only for Royal Mail and Parcelforce but also for several leading parcel carriers, including Amazon, DPD, DHL, and Evri at selected locations.
Ohandjanian highlighted the range of support available: “Whether it’s expert advice on international shipping, help with customs forms, finding the best delivery option, or simply a convenient spot to collect or drop off parcels, Post Office is here to make Christmas sending stress-free.” The clear message from the postal giant is to plan ahead to avoid disappointment and ensure gifts arrive in time for the big day.
