A pupil has been taken to hospital following a serious incident near a school in Wednesbury, prompting a swift response from police and ambulance services.
Officers were called to the area surrounding Wodensborough Ormiston Academy on Hydes Road shortly after students had left for the day on Tuesday, June 9. Paramedics also attended the scene, and the student was subsequently transported to hospital for precautionary checks, a school spokesperson confirmed.
School statement addresses misinformation
In a message shared on social media, the school acknowledged that the incident was witnessed by members of the school community and that some misinformation had been circulating. The spokesperson said: 'We are writing to provide an update following a serious incident which took place shortly after the school day today involving a student.'
'The police and ambulance service were called and quickly arrived to provide support. The student has now been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure to be checked over.'
'We know that this incident was witnessed by members of our school community and understand that there will be concern. Please be assured that we are treating this extremely seriously, working closely with the police and other authorities to support ongoing enquiries and ensure the necessary support is in place.'
No bladed item involved
The spokesperson added: 'We are aware that some misinformation is circulating following the incident. While we cannot share further details at this stage due to ongoing enquiries, we want to reassure families that, although this was an extremely serious incident, we understand that no bladed item was involved.'
'The health, safety and wellbeing of all our students is our absolute priority. To support this, we will have enhanced staffing on the school gates at the start and end of the day for the remainder of the week, and pastoral support will be available for any student who may need it.'
The school pledged to keep families updated as appropriate and thanked the community for their support. West Midlands Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
