A woman has appeared in court charged in connection with a fatal dog attack involving an XL Bully that killed a 19-year-old woman.
Kelcie Reed, 24, is accused of being in charge of a dog named Prince, which caused the death of Morgan Dorsett. Morgan, originally from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, was pronounced dead at the scene after being mauled by the dog at a flat in Bristol on February 26 last year.
Court Appearance
Reed, of Bristol, appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 24. Dressed in black clothes, she spoke only to confirm her identity and personal details. She gave no indication of a plea to a single charge of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death.
District Judge Lynn Matthews ruled that the case would be sent to Bristol Crown Court, with the next hearing scheduled for May 27. The 24-year-old was released on conditional bail, with the strict condition that she must not be in charge of or own a dog under any circumstances.
Details of the Attack
The court heard that the dangerous dog involved in the attack was an XL Bully. Avon and Somerset Police previously confirmed that the dog was put down after the attack. A provisional cause of death was given as dog bites to Morgan's neck, as heard at Avon Coroners' Court.
The tragic incident has prompted renewed calls for stricter regulations on dangerous dog breeds, particularly XL Bullies, which have been involved in several fatal attacks across the UK.
