State Pensioners on Friday Get Double DWP Payments in July
Friday State Pensioners to Receive Double Payments in July

State pensioners who receive their Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) payments on a Friday will receive two payments in July. Those paid on Friday, July 3, will also be paid on July 31, providing a significant financial boost.

Why Double Payments Occur

This is due to the DWP's practice of paying the state pension every four weeks. After claiming the State Pension, recipients receive a letter detailing their payment schedule. The new State Pension is typically paid into accounts every four weeks. If pensioners wish to change their payment account, they can inform the Pension Service, as explained by both the DWP and the Labour Party on their website.

DWP Guidance on Payments

The DWP states: "You'll be asked when you want to start getting your State Pension when you claim. Your first payment will be no later than 5 weeks after the date you choose. You'll get a full payment every 4 weeks after that. You might get part of a payment before your first full payment. The letter confirming your State Pension payment will tell you what to expect." Payments are based on the last two digits of the recipient's National Insurance number, with 80 to 99 indicating Friday payments.

Government Commitment to Triple Lock

Last year, Chancellor Rachel Reeves reaffirmed the government's commitment to the state pension triple lock via social media. She confirmed: "Pensioners will get more money next year thanks to our commitment to the triple lock. We're supporting pensioners to give them the security in retirement they deserve. Labour is cutting the cost of living." Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also confirmed the move, stating: "From next April, pensioners will get more money in their State Pension. My government is tackling the cost of living and delivering greater security for those in retirement."
