Lloyds Warns Halifax Customers of Scams as Brand Axed

Lloyds Bank has issued fresh guidance to Halifax customers, warning them to be vigilant against scammers as the iconic Halifax brand is phased out from UK high streets next year. In an email to customers, the bank confirmed that communications will gradually shift from Halifax to Lloyds, creating opportunities for fraudsters to impersonate the bank.

Scam Warning as Brand Transition Begins

The email states: "Over the next few months, as the Halifax brand changes to Lloyds, some of the communications you see from us will start to look different and may come from Lloyds. Scammers will use this as an opportunity to impersonate us and try to scam people out of money." The bank emphasised that its "golden rules" for scam protection remain unchanged, urging customers to remember them to stay safe.

Halifax added: "Emails from [Halifax] will always include your name, last four digits of an account you have with us or part of your postcode. We might send you links to more information or to our secure app to take you straight to the information you need. These are our golden rules, no exceptions."

Rebranding to Simplify Banking

On the Halifax website, the brand claims the rebrand is meant to make banking "feel simpler, smarter, and more joined up." The company stated: "There’s no change to your account features and benefits [immediately]. Over time, the brand of your Halifax accounts will change to Lloyds. If you have different Halifax accounts, updates may happen at different times, and we’ll always let you know before anything changes."

Lloyds’ consumer relations boss, Jas Singh, said: “As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today – the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches – even the same sort code and account number. But as Lloyds customers, they’ll get the best innovation and experiences we offer.”

Benefits for Halifax Customers

Singh added: “Our Lloyds customers are already benefiting from a significant investment into propositions like Club Lloyds, Lloyds Premier, Lloyds Ultra and Lloyds Rewards – and now we’re really excited that Halifax customers can bank on Lloyds for more.” The transition aims to provide a seamless experience while expanding access to Lloyds' premium services.
