Octopus Energy has confirmed a significant change to its Octoplus loyalty scheme, affecting 2.8 million customers. The energy giant is replacing the previous first-come-first-served reward system with a new scratchcard mechanism, giving customers a better chance of winning popular freebies.
Monday Morning Scramble Scrapped
Previously, 60,000 customers would rush to claim hundreds of thousands of rewards as soon as they became available on Monday mornings. This often left many customers empty-handed. The new scratchcard system ensures that those who sleep in are no longer at a disadvantage. Tens of thousands of prizes are added weekly, including free coffees, sausage rolls, ice pops, chocolate bars, Constantine plushies, and UberOne memberships.
Second-Chance Prize Draw
If customers do not win instantly via the scratchcard, they can enter a second-chance prize draw for even bigger rewards. These include a luxury trip to Dubrovnik for two. The overhaul aims to make the reward system more equitable and engaging.
£19 Million in Rewards Claimed
More than 2.8 million households have already joined Octoplus. Last year alone, customers claimed £19 million worth of rewards and freebies. Octopus Energy, which serves Birmingham households, competes with other major suppliers like OVO Energy, EDF Energy, E.On Next, British Gas, and Scottish Power.
Company Statement
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Marketing Officer at Octopus Energy, said: "We constantly innovate to make energy better for people, and Octoplus is one such example. We built it to reward customers for getting involved, and our new Monday scratchcard is the latest way we're sprinkling a little joy into the week. Our customers told us how much they love the free coffee, so it's staying – alongside even more chances to win brilliant rewards. Free coffees, holidays, gig tickets... Mondays are looking much better already."
