Several planning applications have been submitted in Sandwell this week, including proposals for new homes, a 3G football pitch, an electric vehicle (EV) charging hub, and a late-night dessert shop.
New Homes in Tipton
One plan submitted to Sandwell Council seeks permission to build nine new homes off Oxford Way, adjacent to Birmingham New Road in Tipton. The site, located behind Castle Road but accessed via Oxford Way, would accommodate nine three- and four-bedroom houses according to the application by Mohammed Rafiq of Icon Property. The former industrial land has been cleared over several years and now consists primarily of shale, pit dirt, rubble, and inert spoil.
Late-Night Dessert Shop in West Bromwich
Mohammed Ali has submitted plans to open a new late-night dessert shop in a former phone shop at Princess Parade, High Street, West Bromwich. If approved, the establishment would operate until 2am daily. The application states that the proposed dessert cafe would involve the preparation and sale of waffles, crepes, pancakes, milkshakes, sundaes, and hot and cold drinks for both dine-in and takeaway customers.
EV Charging Hub in Cradley Heath
Another application has been lodged to convert a car wash and car dealer site off St Anne’s Road at Five Ways, Cradley Heath, into an EV charging hub. The car storage yard and car wash would be replaced by 12 ultra-rapid charging bays under plans by Fastned UK. The application notes that Sandwell’s planning evidence for Cradley Heath highlights that some car-dominated blocks and surface parking near the centre contribute weakly to the townscape and offer limited environmental quality. It adds that the town is well served by public transport and active travel, making Cradley Heath a logical location for a high-quality EV hub, with existing activity and movement but clear opportunities to improve land use and appearance.
3G Football Pitch in Smethwick
Holly Lodge High School has also put forward proposals to build a new 3G floodlit football pitch on the school’s playing fields in Holly Lane, Smethwick. The pitch would provide enhanced sports facilities for the school and potentially the wider community.
