MP Commends West Midlands Talent in Parliament

Halesowen MP Alex Ballinger took to the floor of the House of Commons earlier this afternoon (July 1) to applaud the contributions of two West Midlands-born footballers ahead of England's World Cup match against DR Congo this evening. Ballinger, the Labour MP for Halesowen, specifically named Jude Bellingham, from Stourbridge, and Morgan Rogers, from Halesowen, as players who have been making the region proud.

Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, Ballinger said: "I know all of us in this place have been following the contest for number 10 quite closely in recent weeks. But amid the North vs South debate, I think it's about time we had someone from the Midlands who is ready to step in to this important position for our country." He added, receiving chuckles from fellow MPs: "So I'm delighted to say we have two fantastic Black Country lads, Jude Bellingham from Stourbridge and Morgan Rogers, from Halesowen, who have both been doing us proud in the contested England number 10 role against our game for Congo this evening."

Prime Minister Responds with Best Wishes

The MP then asked Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who resigned just last week, if he would be congratulating England on their progress so far. Starmer responded by saying they all wished England "the best of luck." He added: "Every time those players step on the pitch, they represent the talent, ambition and diversity of this country."

The Prime Minister also highlighted government investment in grassroots football, stating: "We're proud to be supporting the next generation, investing £400 million into grassroots facilities." He noted that the government has placed significant investment into school sports across the country. In a light-hearted conclusion, Starmer joked: "If Thomas Tuchel needs any advice on penalties, he should ask David Seaman who slotted one past him just a few weeks ago."

England's World Cup Campaign Continues

Kick-off for the highly anticipated match between England and DR Congo is set for 5pm, with fans across the world waiting anxiously to see the Three Lions take on their next World Cup opponent. Bellingham and Rogers, both products of the West Midlands football scene, have been integral to England's progress in the tournament.

Bellingham, a midfielder for Real Madrid, has been a standout performer, while Rogers, who plays for Aston Villa, has also made significant contributions. Their success underscores the rich footballing heritage of the West Midlands, a region that has produced numerous England internationals over the years.
