Free Tennis for Mums and Kids in Erdington

A new free tennis initiative called Rally Together has launched in Erdington, Birmingham, aimed at inspiring women and children to develop a lifelong love of sport. The programme offers completely free sessions at three parks in Erdington, with participants who attend for six weeks receiving a free T-shirt, racket, and ball. Children have been given postcards at school to invite their female relatives to join them.

Breaking Down Barriers

"The focus here is to reduce childcare barriers for women wanting to get active and create a community of mums and families," said Katie Strang, sports coach and EYFS lead for Rally Together. According to Sport England statistics, four in 10 women are not active enough to ensure full health benefits, with 13 million women saying they would like to do more sports and physical activities.

Inclusive and Accessible

The initiative, delivered by Spark Active in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association, welcomes absolute beginners and requires no previous experience. Sessions include tennis, pickleball, and other multi-sport activities. Launched just ahead of Wimbledon, the project is set to run for at least 12 months and aims to make sport more accessible by removing cost barriers and creating a relaxed park environment.
