The second weekend of the Northwest Regional Championships in Manchester brought further successes for Merseyside swimmers. Matilda Bristow continued her outstanding form from the first week, securing gold in the 50m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyle events with personal best times. Niko Dorsz and Rose Nickson each added two gold medals to their collections, while Thomas Rickels claimed gold in both the 800m and 1500m Freestyle.
Medal Haul in Distance Events
The 800m and 1500m Freestyle events proved fruitful for many athletes. Albion Dobrushi and Ella Lambert both earned silver medals in each distance, while Finlay Byrne and Ella Lambert also secured a silver and a bronze. In the 800m Freestyle, silver went to Callum Byrne and Kerry Hennie, with bronze medals awarded to Aiden Kearney, Ethan Dwyer, and Harry Prothero. The 1500m Freestyle saw silver for George Dixon and Macy Barker, and bronze for Lilly Walters, Tilly Stevens, and William Stamper.
Personal Bests and Sprints
Ralph Stockton achieved one of two personal bests to win gold in the 50m Freestyle, while George Pearce used a personal best to take gold in the 50m Breaststroke. In the 50m Backstroke, personal bests earned Sophie Lutas and James Grant bronze medals.
Wirral Metro's Success
The 800m and 1500m Freestyle also brought success for Wirral Metro. Abbie Roscoe and Harper Aspinall both claimed gold in each event. Ava Halliwell won gold in the 1500m and bronze in the 800m, while Vivien Wilkinson secured bronze in the 1500m.
Butterfly and Breaststroke Highlights
Lauren Berry claimed gold in the 50m Butterfly. Personal bests gave Ben Stephenson silver in the 50m Butterfly and Lily Horton bronze in the 50m Breaststroke.
Halton, Garston, and Others Shine
Anthony Wawrzyniak led the Halton team with four personal bests, including a bronze in the 50m Butterfly. Mackinley Houghton reached the 50m Butterfly final, while Freya Karaski posted a personal best in the 50m Freestyle final. Garston had a strong weekend with Forrest Hopley, Naya Phillips, Oliver Read, and Owen Cosgrove all setting personal bests. Bebington's Sophia Hewett continued her good form, taking silver in the 1500m Freestyle with a personal best and bronze in the 800m Freestyle. Prescot's Ella Hewett won gold in the 50m Butterfly and silver in the 50m Backstroke, both in personal best times. Jessica Cooper of Formby achieved a personal best to finish 8th in the 50m Backstroke final. Crosby duo Annie McEntre and Daniel Jackson both set personal bests in the 50m Freestyle. Bootle and North Liverpool's Sasha McNabb recorded a personal best in the 50m Breaststroke, and Zerrin Bentham did so in the 1500m Freestyle.
North Wales Success in Wrexham
On Sunday in Wrexham, Bebington's Evelyn Britton set five personal bests. Logan Savage took gold in the 50m Breaststroke and bronze in the 50m Backstroke. Habiba Jones earned silvers in the 100m Individual Medley (personal best) and 100m Breaststroke. Lucy Galloway also took silver in the 100m Breaststroke. Ryder Maddocks, Abiagail Percy, and Mahmood Aarif also set personal bests.
Runcorn's Medalists
Runcorn was well represented, with Vlad Iordache winning a gold and three silvers, supported by Alexander Cockram who collected a gold and two bronze. Evie Leather, Ffion Sinnott, Albert Olier, and Nicholas Olier also reached the podium.
