Aston Villa triumphed over SC Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final, ending a 30-year wait for a trophy. The City of Birmingham is preparing to welcome the team with a grand open-top bus parade.
Parade Details
The free, unticketed parade will take place on Thursday, May 21, starting at approximately 4:30 PM. The 4.5km route begins at Branston Street in the Jewellery Quarter, passes through Sand Pits and Broad Street, and ends at Centenary Square. The celebration will feature a three-bus convoy, with players on the claret-colored bus, culminating in a trophy lift.
Viewing and Accessibility
Fans are encouraged to spread out along the route, with large screens set up at intervals. A dedicated raised viewing platform for up to 35 wheelchair users and 35 companions is available at Centenary Square on a first-come, first-served basis.
Travel and Safety
Driving is strongly discouraged due to temporary parking suspensions and road closures from 10 AM to 10 PM. Public transport is recommended but will face disruptions, including diverted bus routes, busy trains, and limited Metro service after 10 AM. Increased police and stewards will manage crowds; attendees should agree on a meeting point in case of separation.
Reactions
Aston Villa reporter John Townley described the victory as emotional, saying, 'I promised myself I wouldn’t break down in the press box if Villa won. One FaceTime call later, and I’m a wreck.' He added, 'This might be the night that defines a generation.' Goals from Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendia, and Morgan Rogers sealed the win for Unai Emery's side.
For those unable to attend, the event will be broadcast live on VillaTV, YouTube, and the club's social media. The trophy will also be paraded at Villa Park during the first home game of the 2026/27 season.
