Birmingham City are poised to complete a significant transfer coup, with a deal agreed to sign Danish striker August Priske from Swedish side Djurgardens for a fee in the region of £6 million.
Breakthrough in Transfer Saga
After extensive negotiations, the Championship club have reportedly seen an offer of €7 million (£6m) plus add-ons accepted for the highly-rated 21-year-old. According to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Priske is "arriving in England today" (19th January 2026) to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
The move comes as Blues manager Chris Davies seeks to bolster his attacking options following the departure of Lyndon Dykes to Charlton Athletic. Priske, a six-cap Denmark Under-21 international, was the top scorer in the Swedish Allsvenskan last season with 18 goals in 27 appearances, attracting interest from clubs like Red Bull Salzburg, Besiktas, and Lille.
Profile of the New Target Man
Standing at 6ft 4in, Priske offers a formidable physical and aerial presence, similar to Marvin Ducksch, but is also noted for his sprint speed and ability to run the channels. His arrival would provide a different dimension to Birmingham's forward line.
However, due to Sweden's spring-to-autumn football calendar, Priske has been on a break and may require a period of integration to adapt to the rigours of English football. He is likely to be phased into the team, with expectations of more regular involvement towards the end of this season and the start of the next.
A Boost for Play-Off Ambitions
The potential signing arrives at a crucial time for Birmingham City, who have struggled for consistency in the Championship this campaign. With just nine wins from 27 league games, they currently sit eight points adrift of the play-off places.
Securing a striker of Priske's proven goalscoring calibre could be the catalyst Davies needs to revive their promotion hopes. The club and its supporters will be hoping for a smoother conclusion than their recent failed pursuit of Mjallby's Abdoulie Manneh, which collapsed at the last minute.
All that remains now is for the promising Dane to put pen to paper at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park and officially become a Birmingham City player.
