Ben Davies, a key figure in Birmingham City's record-breaking League One title win, has joined newly-promoted Championship club Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer. The 30-year-old defender will leave Rangers when his contract expires at the end of the month, having agreed a two-year deal with Bolton.
Loan Spell at Oxford United
Davies spent last season on loan at Oxford United, where he made 11 appearances as the club was relegated to League One. His final start for Oxford came against his former club Birmingham City in January.
Outstanding 2024/25 Campaign at Blues
The defender was unable to replicate the form he showed during the 2024/25 season at Birmingham City, where he became a fixture in the team that shattered the EFL points record en route to the League One title. He formed a formidable partnership with Blues captain Christoph Klarer, playing 44 games and helping the club secure promotion.
Birmingham City explored the possibility of re-signing Davies last summer, but the move fell through, leading the club to sign left-sided centre-backs Eiran Cashin and Jack Robinson instead.
Davies on Bolton Move
After completing his transfer to Bolton, Davies expressed his excitement: 'It feels brilliant to be here. I heard of interest from a few clubs but as soon as I knew Bolton were interested, this was the club I wanted to come to.'
He added: 'It's going to be exciting times back in the Championship after an excellent year last season. I've seen that the average attendance last year was over 20,000 and that was a massive pull for me. I think my Championship experience can help the team on and off the pitch. I've met with the gaffer and I like his outlook on football and how he wants to play.'
Davies will now prepare to face his former club Birmingham City in the Championship next season.
