Manchester United have confirmed their final decision on Jadon Sancho, announcing that the winger will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
Sancho spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Aston Villa from Old Trafford, contributing to Unai Emery's side finishing fourth in the Premier League—just behind the Red Devils—and winning the Europa League.
There had been speculation that United might activate a clause in Sancho's contract to extend his stay for another year, but the club released a statement on Wednesday confirming his departure. He is one of three players set to leave, alongside Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia.
"Everyone at the club would like to thank Casemiro, Tyrell and Jadon for their contributions to Manchester United and wish them the very best of luck for the future," United said in their statement.
This means Sancho will become a free agent during the summer transfer window, allowing him to negotiate with any club without a transfer fee.
Emery's Stance on Sancho's Future
Speaking before Villa's final Premier League match of the season, Emery stated he had not yet decided whether to pursue a permanent deal for the 26-year-old or fellow loanee Douglas Luiz.
"Not yet," Emery said when asked if he had made a decision. "Now we are finishing the season. We will reflect and analyse each situation. We will decide it, but not yet."
He added: "I am so, so proud of every player and how they have responded. Now is the moment after Sunday to take decisions on how we will continue building and strengthening our development."
Emery emphasised his ambition for the club: "We are ambitious, and everything we did is important for how we can analyse how to get better next year. I only want to improve and get better next year. The decisions we take will be in this direction."
