Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has publicly outlined his future plans after formally committing his long-term future to the Premier League club by signing a new contract.
New Contract and Transfer Commitment
The right-back, a key figure for Villa, put pen to paper on a new deal earlier this month that secures his services at Villa Park until 2029, with a club option to extend for an additional 12 months. This move comes despite Cash confirming he had received "a few offers this summer" from both Premier League rivals and clubs abroad.
However, the Poland international stated that his priority was always to remain with Aston Villa. "From the beginning, I thought about staying at Aston Villa," Cash told SportoweFakty. "I like it here, I'm developing. Last year we were in the Champions League, and we're still competing in European competitions."
Future Ambition: A Move to Legia Warsaw
In a surprising revelation, Cash declared a specific long-term career goal, announcing: "And in four years, I'm going to Legia Warsaw!" This ambition was sparked by his experience playing against the Polish side in a memorable Europa Conference League match in September 2023.
Villa lost 3-2 at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego in a match defined by a "cauldron of noise" created by the Legia supporters. When asked if he was serious about the future move, Cash confirmed, "I remember their great fans." He was quick to clarify, however, that for now, "I'm staying put at Birmingham."
Praise for Manager Unai Emery
A significant factor in Cash's decision to stay is the influence of manager Unai Emery. The defender was effusive in his praise for the Villa boss, describing him as a "brilliant tactician" and a "very brilliant and intelligent coach."
"He believes in me. We quickly agreed on a new contract," Cash explained. "He understands the game, can help you develop yourself, can develop the team. Working with him is a pleasure. He's the best coach I've ever had in my career."
With his future now settled, Cash is also on the verge of a personal milestone at the club, needing just five more appearances to reach 200 for Aston Villa, underscoring his important role in the squad.
