Nathan Shi Backs Wolves Women After Historic Promotion

Wolves chairman Nathan Shi was in attendance to witness Wolves Women's historic promotion to the Women's Super League Two for the first time in the club's history.

A solitary goal from Charlotte Greengrass proved decisive as Wolves edged past Plymouth at the Pirelli Stadium on Monday.

This achievement comes just a year after the women's team faced disappointment when former chairman Jeff Shi failed to apply for a tier two licence, despite the side pushing for promotion.

Fast forward 12 months and the landscape has changed dramatically. Promotion has been secured, with manager Dan McNamara describing the achievement as 'life changing'.

Unlike the previous regime, new chairman Nathan Shi was present in the stands to witness the historic moment. Shi, who took over earlier this season, has already won praise for initiatives such as reducing season ticket prices.

However, he faced some criticism over the weekend after a fan filmed him questioning an incident that occurred in the South Bank during Wolves' 1-1 draw with Sunderland.

After the match, Shi celebrated with the players and spoke to the Wolves website, emphasising the club's commitment to building on the success and providing McNamara's side with the platform to compete at a higher level.

He said: "This is a historic moment for Wolves Women and everyone connected to the club. To secure promotion in such a high-pressure game is a huge achievement, and I'm proud of the players, Dan and all of the staff for what they have delivered this season.

"The commitment, resilience and togetherness shown by this group has been outstanding. They deserve enormous credit for the standards they have set over the many consecutive seasons that they have been punching above their weight in this league, battling to the end against professional sides on a number of occasions.

"Today is a moment to celebrate, and an important step in the journey of Wolves Women.

"With our move to a professional model next season, we hope to build on this success and give the team the platform to compete and thrive at a higher level."
