Ripon Grammar School's under-14 cricket teams have etched their names in the school's history books by winning both the girls' and boys' North Yorkshire Schools county championships. This is the first time the school has achieved a double victory in these finals, with the girls' team securing their first-ever county cricket trophy.
Girls' Team Triumphs in Thrilling Final
The under-14 girls defeated Rossett School by three wickets in a tense match. After bowling out their opponents for 97 runs, Ripon chased down the target of 98 runs, finishing on 99 for six. Rosie Forsythe led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Sophie Pettie and Orla Metcalfe each took two. Florence Lund and Aashi Joshi also claimed one wicket each. In the batting innings, Phoebe Dilworth scored 29 runs to lay the foundation, and Florence Lund hit the winning runs to remain unbeaten.
Boys' Team Dominates to Complete Double
The under-14 boys capped their successful season with a commanding 39-run victory over St Aidan's. Batting first, they amassed 161 runs for the loss of two wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Oliver Moorcroft led from the front with an unbeaten 50, while Jacob Nicholson contributed 38 runs. The bowlers then dismissed St Aidan's for 122 runs, with Moorcroft and Seb Robinson taking two wickets each. James Taylor and Ashvath Koneti also chipped in with wickets to seal the title.
Historic Achievement for the School
According to a school spokesperson, this double victory is a landmark moment for Ripon Grammar School. The under-14 girls' win is particularly significant as it marks the first time a girls' team from the school has won a county cricket trophy. The boys' team, meanwhile, has continued its strong tradition in the sport. The school praised the players for their consistent performances and sharp fielding throughout the season.
