Former Aston Villa midfielder Robert Snodgrass has claimed that Arsenal are unlikely to sign Morgan Rogers this summer unless they pay an 'absolutely ridiculous' transfer fee. The England attacker, currently on World Cup duty, continues to be the subject of intense speculation linking him with a move to the Emirates.
Rogers valued at £100m after stellar season
Rogers, who starred in Aston Villa's Europa League triumph and delivered another impressive Premier League campaign, is reportedly valued in the £100 million bracket. Despite Villa needing to manage their finances, selling a key player while they are back in the Champions League appears improbable.
Snodgrass: 'I don't see that happening'
Speaking to talkSPORT BET, Snodgrass dismissed the likelihood of a transfer. 'Morgan Rogers to Arsenal? I don't see that happening,' he said. 'I feel as if Aston Villa have taken it to the next level. They want to be challenging for the top four. They have one of the best managers in the world and a great squad. They will try to add players to that group rather than sell.'
Snodgrass added that Arsenal might only have a chance if the offer is extraordinary. 'It is one where Arsenal might have a shot if the money is absolutely ridiculous, but I can't see him going. He is an exceptional talent.'
Villa's Champions League status strengthens position
With Aston Villa back in Europe's elite competition, the club is under no pressure to part with their star attacker. The prospect of losing Rogers, who has become a fan favourite and a key component of Unai Emery's squad, seems remote unless a record-breaking bid materialises.
Arsenal's interest in Rogers has been persistent, but Villa's financial strength and sporting ambitions make any deal complicated. The summer transfer window remains open, but the odds are firmly stacked against a move to North London.
