Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly being considered for a major managerial role in Italy, with AC Milan placing him on their wishlist following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri.
Milan sacked Allegri on Monday after a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari on Sunday, which confirmed their failure to qualify for the Champions League. The Rossoneri finished fifth in Serie A, one point behind fourth-placed Como, following a poor run of form with only two wins in their last eight matches. As a result, Milan will compete in the Europa League for the 2026/27 season, alongside Juventus.
In a damning statement, Milan announced the departure of Allegri, sporting director Igli Tare, CEO Giorgio Furlani, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. The club stated that the final stretch of the season was completely inconsistent with their earlier performance and constituted an unequivocal failure.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Emery is among the candidates being considered for the Milan job, along with former Juventus coach Thiago Motta, Bologna's Vincenzo Italiano, and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola.
Emery has been at Aston Villa since October 2022 and has transformed the club into a competitive force in the Premier League and Europe. Villa have finished in the top six for three consecutive seasons and recently won the Europa League, their first trophy in 30 years. Emery's record at Villa stands at 109 wins, 34 draws, and 53 losses in 196 matches, with a win rate of 55.6%.
Despite the interest, Emery has indicated his commitment to Villa. After a 2-1 win over Manchester City, he stated that the priority next season is the Premier League, followed by the Champions League and other cups. He emphasized the challenge of increasing demands and consistency, and noted that the club plans to expand the stadium by 8,000 seats to support their ambitions.
