West Bromwich Albion have completed the signing of a new goalkeeper, bringing in competition for Max O'Leary for the number one jersey. The club confirmed the arrival on Tuesday, with the player joining on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.
New arrival to push O'Leary
The new signing, a 28-year-old shot-stopper, has signed a three-year contract at The Hawthorns. He arrives from a Championship rival, where he made 35 appearances last season. According to the club's official statement, the player is expected to provide stiff competition for O'Leary, who joined West Brom last summer.
Manager's view on the signing
Head coach Carlos Corberan said: “We are delighted to bring in a goalkeeper of his quality. He has experience in this division and will push Max for the starting spot. It is important to have strong competition in every position.” The manager added that the signing strengthens the squad depth ahead of the new season.
Impact on squad dynamics
O'Leary, 27, started 42 league games last season, but the new arrival is expected to challenge his position. West Brom finished 9th in the Championship last term, and Corberan is aiming for a promotion push. The club have also been linked with a new striker and a left-back in the transfer window.
