Joao Gomes Addresses Man United & Napoli Transfer Rumours Amid Wolves' Relegation Fight
Wolves' Gomes responds to Man United transfer rumours

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes has publicly addressed the growing speculation surrounding a potential move away from Molineux, with Manchester United and Napoli both linked, but insists his sole priority is the club's battle for Premier League survival.

Focus Firmly on the Fight for Survival

In an interview with Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the 24-year-old Brazilian was unequivocal about his immediate commitment. "We are working very hard every day to get Wolves out of this situation," Gomes stated. "The season ends in May and there is still a long way to go." He directly appealed to the supporters, adding, "We ask the fans to keep believing in us because we are very committed to changing the situation the team is in."

Gomes, who joined Wolves from Flamengo in 2023 and has since made 112 appearances, expressed deep gratitude for his time at the club. "The affection from the fans is incredible, and I really want to give that back," he said. "I will give my life on the pitch so the team can finish the season safe from relegation."

Transfer Interest Amidst On-Pitch Struggles

The player's steadfast declarations come against a backdrop of reported interest from major clubs. His performances in 23 matches across all competitions this season, one of the few consistent bright spots in a difficult campaign, have reportedly attracted scouts.

Manchester United are said to be monitoring his situation, while Serie A giants Napoli have also been named as admirers. With three-and-a-half years remaining on his current Wolves contract, any move would command a significant fee, but the spectre of relegation to the Championship could force the club's hand.

Recent Form Offers Hope for Wolves

There are signs of a potential revival under head coach Rob Edwards. An unbeaten run of four matches has provided a crucial boost, including a draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United and a first league victory of the season—a 3-0 thrashing of West Ham United.

This was followed by another draw with Everton and a comprehensive 6-1 FA Cup third-round win over Shrewsbury Town. Gomes believes this improved form is no accident. "Even before we started this unbeaten run, we were already playing well," he reflected, pointing to a narrow late defeat at Arsenal. "We knew it was a matter of making adjustments. These four matches without defeat are not a coincidence."

Despite the upturn, Wolves remain entrenched in the relegation battle. For Gomes, staying in the top flight is a personal dream. "It is another dream come true. The Premier League is the biggest national league in the world," he said, praising the level of competition and stadium atmosphere. His immediate future, however, depends on turning his commitment into the points needed to secure Wolves' Premier League status for another season.
