Preston Manager Claims Tunnel Smelled of Weed After Snoop Dogg's Swansea Appearance
Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom has made a surprising claim about his team's recent Championship match against Swansea City, stating that the only indication rapper Snoop Dogg was in attendance was the distinctive smell of marijuana in the tunnel.
Unusual Atmosphere at Swansea.com Stadium
The Tuesday night fixture at Swansea.com Stadium attracted worldwide attention after hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., made his first appearance as an investor in the Welsh club. The 54-year-old music icon was paraded before supporters ahead of kick-off, generating an electric atmosphere and drawing a record attendance to the stadium.
However, Heckingbottom insists that Snoop Dogg's high-profile presence had little impact on the actual 1-1 draw. Preston took the lead through Daniel Jebbison's first-half strike before Liam Cullen's dramatic 95th-minute equaliser salvaged a crucial point for the home side.
Heckingbottom's Post-Match Comments
When questioned about whether his players had to contend with an unusually charged atmosphere due to the celebrity appearance, Heckingbottom responded with characteristic bluntness. "It wasn't was it? That's how we played. Our fans were the loudest," the Preston manager stated. "We only let them have their occasion at the very end by conceding. So that's the frustrating thing."
He continued to downplay the significance of the special event, adding: "I can't tell. It's only different for people who are here every week, isn't it? It's not different for us. We don't play at Swansea every week, so it's no different for us."
The manager drew comparisons to other away fixtures, noting: "We go away to Ipswich the other week, they were at it, their fans were at it, and that was noise all game. It was just a game for us and we kept, I felt, everyone quiet until the end."
The Telltale Sign
Heckingbottom then revealed the unusual clue that tipped off his team about the special guest. "I think just the smell of weed in the tunnel is the only thing where we realised something was different," he remarked candidly.
Snoop Dogg's Swansea Connection
The appearance marked Snoop Dogg's debut at the Swansea.com Stadium since becoming part of the club's high-profile ownership group in July of last year. The 17-time Grammy nominee invested alongside television personality Martha Stewart and AC Milan star Luka Modric, with the trio aiming to guide Swansea City back to the Premier League.
Dressed in a Swansea shirt and jacket as he strode onto the pitch, Snoop Dogg received a warm welcome that included a guard of honour from 20 youngsters set to represent Wales at the 2026 Street Child World Cup. The rapper then embarked on a lap of the stadium, acknowledging the cheering supporters and sharing an embrace with club mascot Cyril the Swan.
Despite the celebrity fanfare and unusual olfactory experience in the tunnel, the match itself ended in a hard-fought draw that left both teams with mixed feelings about the result.
