The countdown has officially begun for one of the city's most empowering summer traditions. With exactly 10 weeks to go until race day, organisers have announced that Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity (LWHC) will step up as the headline charity partner for the highly anticipated BTR Women’s 10K and 5K Liverpool this September. Taking place in the picturesque setting of Sefton Park on Sunday, September 6, 2026, the event is a glorious throwback to the 1980s and early 1990s when the historic female-only race originally thrived in the very same park.
Whether you are an experienced runner aiming for a 10K personal best or a complete beginner looking to conquer your very first 5K, there is a place on the start line for everyone. The 5K gets underway at 9.30am, followed by the main 10K event at 10.30am.
Race Revival and Growth
After being brought back to life by leading event organisers BTR Liverpool in 2024, the race has grown rapidly. More than 600 runners crossed the finish line last year, and this year, organisers are dreaming even bigger. With over 500 runners already registered, the goal is to smash through the 1,000-entry barrier. Every single person who finishes will be rewarded with a commemorative medal and a T-shirt to celebrate their achievement.
Alan Rothwell, BTR Liverpool Founder, said: "Liverpool Women’s Hospital is firmly rooted in the city, and the majority of runners taking part on the day will most definitely know a family member or friend supported by the hospital or its charity. By supporting LWHC through the 2026 race, we will continue to attract new runners."
Charity Impact
Liverpool Women’s Hospital is the UK’s largest specialist hospital dedicated to the health of women, babies, and families. By signing up, participants have a unique opportunity to give back to the specific departments that have touched their lives - from neonatal care and fertility treatment to maternity and gynaecology services. Every penny raised goes above and beyond standard NHS provision to provide comfort, cutting-edge equipment, and vital research.
Here is how small donations can make a massive community impact:
- £10 can help provide essential comfort packs for patients during their hospital stay.
- £20 can help fund specialist equipment to care for the tiniest, most vulnerable patients in the Neonatal unit.
- £50 contributes toward creating comfortable, welcoming environments for families during some of the most difficult times of their lives.
Loren Slade, fundraising manager at Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, shared her excitement for the partnership: "It’s a fantastic opportunity for women to come together, support one another, and celebrate what can be achieved when we stand side by side. We’d love to see our biggest ever turn-out of runners taking part for this very special event."
