Liverpool Half Marathon and 10 Mile Race Kick Off Running Season with Community Spirit

The streets of Liverpool were alive with energy and camaraderie as the iconic Liverpool Half Marathon and 10 Mile Road Race marked the start of the running season in spectacular fashion. Thousands of participants gathered for one of the North West's longest-established road races, challenging themselves while supporting vital charitable causes.

Charity Partnership Raises Significant Funds

This year, the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) served as the headline Charity Partner, with over 150 dedicated runners raising an incredible £25,000. These funds are crucial to maintaining the charity's lifesaving helicopter services, which operate without any government funding.

Every runner had a personal motivation for supporting NWAA. Sarah Rattray, a mother of two from Aintree who works in the charity's supporter engagement team, shared her journey. She began running through the NHS Couch to 5K programme in late 2024 and completed the half-marathon as a major achievement. Sarah emphasized the importance of NWAA's work, stating that their crews provide advanced emergency care across the region in critical situations.

Personal Stories Highlight Impact

Alex Livesey from Hesketh Bank also ran for NWAA, achieving a personal best at the half-marathon distance. He was inspired to help after learning that the charity receives no government funding, realizing that anyone might need their services. Alex used social media for fundraising, creating engaging videos and updates to reach his target.

Jackie Marsh from Southport participated in the half-marathon in aid of NWAA, expressing gratitude as a former patient whose life was saved by the charity. Her husband, Jonathon, had to withdraw due to an injury, but Jackie completed the run with pride.

Looking Ahead to Future Events

Following this successful race, NWAA is encouraging supporters to consider joining Team NWAA for next year's event. Whether aiming for a first race or a new personal best, the Liverpool Half Marathon and 10 Miler offer a chance to be part of a popular running event while supporting a vital cause.

Although the exact race date for 2027 is to be confirmed, with options on March 14 or March 21, registration for charity places is now open. Every contribution helps keep the air ambulance crews ready to save lives in the Liverpool City Region and beyond.
