Stockport County have secured a significant boost to their League One promotion ambitions with the return of forward Louie Barry on loan from Aston Villa, a move that management hopes will reignite excitement among supporters.

Manager David Challinor has outlined his hopes for Barry's role in the club's campaign, emphasising the unanimous desire from all parties to reunite the player with Stockport. Barry, who required surgery after an injury sustained during a loan spell at Sheffield United earlier in the season, is currently stepping up his rehabilitation.
Challinor explained, "His connection with the club has become a special one from both sides and the impact he has had within our team when playing has been huge." He added that Barry should be back running soon, with a potential return to the pitch anticipated around mid-March, though the club is taking a cautious approach to his recovery.
Recruitment Head Highlights Excitement Factor
Jonathan Smith, Stockport's head of recruitment, expressed delight at the loan deal, noting Barry's proven ability to energise the crowd. "We wanted a player who could take defenders on, excite the crowd and get people off their seats," Smith recalled, referencing Barry's previous successful spells at Edgeley Park in League Two.
Smith highlighted memorable moments from Barry's earlier loans, such as a goal against Cambridge United at the start of the League One season, underscoring the forward's special bond with the club. Barry made nine appearances for Sheffield United before his injury, starting in their first five league matches. His return to Stockport marks a third loan stint, following two prior periods where he contributed significantly with goals and assists.
