Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken a firm stance in the January transfer window by rejecting what they describe as a 'derisory' offer from Italian giants AS Roma for defender David Moller Wolfe.
Wolves Dismiss Roma's Initial Approach
Sky Sports News reports that Wolves have turned down an offer in the region of £6.9m from AS Roma for the Norwegian left-back. Club sources have indicated they consider the bid to be significantly below their valuation of the player and have communicated this directly to the Italian club.
The West Midlands side paid approximately £10m to secure Moller Wolfe's services from AZ Alkmaar during the summer transfer window, with the 23-year-old signing a five-year contract that runs until 2030. Despite his recent lack of game time, Wolves maintain they have no interest in selling the defender at this stage.
Transfer Window Context
Roma's interest in Moller Wolfe comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of their current left-back option, Kostas Tsimikas. The Greek international joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan from Liverpool but has been linked with a return to Anfield as speculation grows about Andrew Robertson's potential departure to Tottenham Hotspur.
Robertson, one of Liverpool's longest-serving players and a key figure in their success over the past decade, has reportedly fallen behind new signing Milos Kerkez in the pecking order and could become a free agent in the summer.
Moller Wolfe's Situation at Wolves
Since his arrival from the Netherlands, Moller Wolfe has made 16 appearances for Wolves across all competitions, scoring twice and providing three assists. However, both of his goals came in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea in a 4-3 defeat.
The Norwegian has started eight Premier League matches and made six substitute appearances, but his last start came in the 2-1 defeat to Brentford on 20 December. Since that match, he has managed just 31 minutes of league football, with Hugo Bueno - another player with experience in Dutch football - currently preferred in the left-back position.
This represents a contrast to Moller Wolfe's final season at AZ Alkmaar, where he contributed eight assists and three goals while helping his team to a fifth-place finish, Europa League knockout stage progression, and a KNVB Cup final appearance.
Wolves' Transfer Window Activity
Wolves have maintained a relatively quiet approach during the January transfer window, focusing primarily on managing their existing squad. The club has allowed several players to depart on loan, including Marshall Munetsi to Paris FC and Ki-Jana Hoever to Sheffield United.
Fer Lopez has returned to Celta Vigo on another loan deal, while there are suggestions the club might consider selling Jorgen Strand Larsen. Despite these movements, Wolves consider Moller Wolfe to remain part of their plans moving forward, despite his recent limited playing time.
Sky Sports News understands that Wolves do not expect Roma to return with an improved offer following their dismissal of the initial bid as inadequate. The club's firm stance reflects their determination to retain players they believe can contribute to their long-term plans, even if they are not currently featuring regularly in the first team.
