Hyndburn Borough Council has announced plans to invest £255,000 in a brand-new skate park on Eagle Street in Accrington. The new facility will replace the current site, which has come to the end of its life after opening more than 20 years ago. The investment comes from the government’s Pride in Place Impact funding and will be used to upgrade the park with modern concrete ramps.
Modern Concrete Ramps to Replace Old Metal Ones
These new concrete ramps will replace the old metal ones to create a smoother and more interesting ride for users. The funding is part of a wider effort to improve access to sports and physical activity for local residents. Other nearby initiatives include a new development officer role, play area refurbishments, and improvements at Bullough Park.
Community Consultation This Summer
The exact design and layout of the skate park will be decided during a community consultation planned for this summer. This consultation will allow the children and young people who use the facility to have their say on its future. More information on how to get involved will be shared on the council’s social media channels over the summer months.
Supporting Young People's Sporting Talents
It is hoped this refurbished facility will provide hours of fun for the next generation of wheeled sports enthusiasts. Councillor Munsif Dad said: “This Council is determined to provide safe, well-equipped spaces for our young people to hone their sporting talents. In recent years the Council has funded new wheeled sports facilities at both Mercer Park and Milnshaw Park, and now we intend to upgrade the Eagle Street site for the next generation. Hyndburn is full of many talented young people and I cannot wait to see them making full use of this state-of-the-art facility when it opens.”
Funding from Pride in Place Impact Programme
The project has been made possible by the Pride in Place Impact Fund, which delivers visible improvements to spaces valued by local communities. Hyndburn will receive a total of £1.5m from this programme to be committed to local projects before March 2027.
