Birmingham City Football Club has taken a monumental step towards a new future, with chairman Tom Wagner officially revealing the designs for a spectacular new 62,000-seater stadium.
The new ground, set to be located near the club's current St Andrew's @Knighthead Park home, was unveiled on November 20, 2025. It is destined to become the centrepiece of a vast, multi-billion pound urban regeneration project known as the Sports Quarter.
A Vision for the Future: The Sports Quarter
This ambitious development extends far beyond just a new home for the Blues. The Sports Quarter is envisioned as a world-class destination, set to feature not only the stunning new stadium but also a 'world-class' training centre and a dedicated stadium for the women's team.
The plans also include a major new arena and a mixed-use development comprising housing and office space, positioning the area as a vibrant hub for the city.
World-Renowned Design Collaboration
The architectural vision for the new stadium is the result of a powerful collaboration. The project brings together the award-winning, British-based Heatherwick Studio and Kansas-based architectural firm MANICA Architecture, known for their work on major global sports venues.
Adding a local creative voice to the project is Steven Knight, the acclaimed writer behind the iconic series Peaky Blinders and a lifelong Birmingham City supporter.
The unveiling event was attended by key figures driving the project forward, including Chairman Tom Wagner, Steven Knight, and Eliot Postma, the group leader from Heatherwick Studio.
A New Landmark for Birmingham
The release of fifteen detailed images, referred to as 'The Powerhouse' series, has given fans and the public their first proper look at what is in the pipeline. The designs promise a modern, atmospheric arena that will significantly increase the club's capacity and provide a fitting home for a club bearing the city's name.
This landmark project, spearheaded by the club's owners Knighthead, represents one of the most significant infrastructure announcements for Birmingham in recent years, signalling a new era for both the football club and the city itself.
