Birmingham City's New Stadium: Stunning Design Revealed at 3pm
Birmingham City's New Stadium Design Revealed

Birmingham City Football Club is set to make a landmark announcement today regarding its spectacular new stadium, a project that chairman Tom Wagner has teased will be visible from up to 35 miles away.

The Vision for a Landmark Arena

The eagerly awaited reveal is scheduled for 3pm today, finally giving Blues fans a glimpse of the future. Chairman Tom Wagner had previously set expectations sky-high, claiming the new stadium's design will be so striking it will be seen from vast distances.

He specifically mentioned that from a hill near Broadway in Worcestershire, approximately 35 miles away, the structure will be clearly visible. Wagner even quipped about the impact it would have on rivals, suggesting that seeing an Aston Villa store in the city centre would be nothing compared to the constant presence of Blues' new home.

A Hub for Sport and Entertainment

The new stadium will be the centrepiece of a major Sports Quarter planned for east Birmingham. The club's owners, Knighthead, purchased the former Birmingham Wheels site from Birmingham City Council last year to bring this vision to life.

This ambitious project aims for completion by 2029, with the goal of Birmingham City playing their home matches at the new ground for the 2029/30 season. Wagner has admitted this timeline is aggressive but underscores the club's commitment to rapid progress.

The Sports Quarter will be far more than just a football stadium. The expansive site is planned to include:

  • Training facilities for all of the club's teams
  • A mini-stadium with a capacity of around 10,000
  • An indoor arena
  • Entertainment and office spaces

World-Class Design Team Unveiled

At the Regional Investment Summit in Edgbaston, alongside Chancellor Rachel Reeves, Wagner revealed the world-class team behind the design. Multi-award-winning British firm Heatherwick Studio will partner with Kansas-based architectural powerhouse MANICA.

They will be supported by iconic film writer and director, Steven Knight, a lifelong Blues fan. This collaboration has vowed to deliver a project that is truly extraordinary and recognisable around the globe, while still being deeply rooted in Birmingham's history.

The club has confirmed that further details, including the first design imagery of the stadium, will be released in the coming weeks, building on the excitement generated by today's major announcement.
