Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club is celebrating after community funding support allowed it to install a new 32ft bungee suspension training platform. This provides athletes and gym users with access to cutting-edge training equipment rarely found in the region.
Now that the steel platform has been installed, it will benefit the 120 members of the club who train week in, week out. It supports a wide range of fitness, strength, rehabilitation and sports performance activities. The system, the only facility of its kind within a 15-mile radius, uses bungee-assisted suspension technology. It can be incorporated into individual training sessions, group classes and specialist coaching programmes.
The funding was secured from local energy company Pennant Walters through its fund linked to the construction of the new, but standalone, Pant y Wal Wind Extension Farm, adjacent to Ogwr Valley. This project builds on earlier support the club has received from the community fund.
Head Coach Comments
Dean Morgan, head coach at Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club, explained: "We have been looking at the benefits of similar systems for a few years and are thrilled that this support means that we could press ahead with the install. We are more than a boxing gym, and this training platform offers something completely unique for our members, and the wider community. Whether people are looking to improve sporting performance, recover from injury, increase fitness levels or simply try something new, this equipment provides opportunities that were previously unavailable locally."
The investment further strengthens Ogmore Valley Dragons Boxing Club as a hub for sport, fitness and wellbeing, helping to attract new participants while supporting the development of existing members. The club plans to introduce a programme of training sessions to ensure as many people as possible can benefit from the new equipment.
Funding Company Statement
Dale Hart, managing director at Pennant Walters, added: "We are delighted to support this project, which will provide lasting benefits, and create new opportunities, for local people to engage in physical activity. The introduction of this training platform is an excellent example of how community funding can help deliver innovative facilities that make a real difference. Our wind energy project community funds exist to make a difference to the local communities in which we work, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this funding and hope those attending the club have plenty of fun using the new equipment."
