Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers has brushed aside speculation that the club values him at a staggering £130 million, insisting he pays no attention to such figures. The 23-year-old England international, currently in the United States with the national team for the World Cup, was responding to reports that Arsenal would need to break the British transfer record to secure his signature.
Villa's reported valuation
According to The Telegraph, Villa value Rogers higher than Elliot Anderson, who recently joined Manchester City for £116 million. The £130 million figure would surpass the current British-record £125 million that Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. Arsenal have been linked with a move for the attacking midfielder, but the hefty price tag appears to be a major obstacle.
Rogers' reaction
Speaking after a training session with England, Rogers laughed off the valuation. "I'm not sure that I'm worth all of that! Of course, it's nice to hear people say those things, but I don't let outside noise dictate to me," he said. "I'm just going to keep focused, keep being myself and keep being the person who got me here while trying to improve. I don't really listen to stuff like that."
Sell-on clause benefits Middlesbrough
If Villa were to sell Rogers this summer, Middlesbrough would receive a significant 20 per cent sell-on fee. Rogers joined Villa from Boro in January 2024 for an initial £8 million, with the deal potentially rising to £15 million through add-ons. Last season, he impressed with 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, attracting interest from top clubs.
Impact on Villa's stance
Despite Rogers' dismissal of the valuation, Villa are under no pressure to sell a player who still has three years remaining on his contract. The club's reported asking price reflects their desire to retain key talent as they aim to build on a strong campaign. Whether Arsenal or any other club will meet that demand remains to be seen, but Rogers appears unfazed by the speculation.
