Merseyside and District Swimming Round Highlights Local Stars

The third round of the Merseyside and District swimming competition took place at Wavertree over the weekend, featuring intense races and standout performances from local athletes.

Pool A Results and Standout Swimmers

In Pool A, Bridgefield emerged as clear winners, largely due to the impressive efforts of their Under 11 and Under 13 boys teams, who doubled up in Age Groups. Strong individual performances were also noted from Maxine Kumi, Katie Mills, Daniel Milne, Cain Hughes, and Jess Cooney, contributing to their team's success.

Woodchurch secured second place, while a close battle for third saw Bootle and North Liverpool just edge out Liverpool Penguins. The Penguins finished ahead of a spirited Runcorn team, showcasing the competitive nature of the event.

Pool B Dominance and Individual Achievements

In Pool B, Halton delivered a great performance to take first place. Anthony Wawrzyniak led the charge with first-place finishes in both the 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke. Isabella Cranney and Petru Moldovan also secured wins in the 50m Breaststroke, adding to Halton's strong showing.

Backstroke victories were claimed by Bella-Mai Fishwick and Jacob Agate, while Freya Karaski touched first in the 50m Freestyle and Beth Macgugan did likewise in the Butterfly. Crosby took second place, and there was a tie for third with Everton and Garston finishing on equal points. Prescot secured fifth place ahead of near neighbours, St Helens.

Wirral Metro Shines at Manchester International Meet

Meanwhile, at the Manchester International Meet, Wirral Metro had a fantastic weekend with numerous achievements. Abbie Roscoe claimed four gold medals, including a personal best in the 200m Butterfly, along with a silver. Ben Stephenson posted five personal bests, earning gold in the 200m Butterfly, silver in the 400m Individual Medley, and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke.

Petra Varga returned home with a gold, a silver, and a bronze. Harper Aspinall achieved a gold in the 400m Freestyle, one of four personal bests, while Ava Halliwell also secured gold in the 400m Freestyle with four personal bests. Vivien Wilkinson claimed silver in the 400m Individual Medley and bronze in the 200m Breaststroke, both in her best-ever times.

Bethan James set three personal bests, highlighted by a bronze in the 200m Butterfly. Southport's Callum Byrne posted a personal best when finishing third in the 1500m Freestyle, with Finlay Byrne taking fourth place. City of Liverpool's Chris Lambert produced a good performance to reach the final of the 50m Freestyle.

These events underscore the depth of talent in local swimming, with athletes achieving remarkable results and setting new personal benchmarks.
