Edgbaston Stadium has unveiled the final interior designs for its on-site Radisson RED Hotel, which is scheduled to open in July 2027, just in time for the Ashes series. The announcement confirms the look of the 146-room hotel, which is currently under construction at the iconic sports venue.
Hotel features and design
The newly released images provide a first look at the Radisson RED's statement interiors, including a 365-days-a-year rooftop restaurant, bar, and terrace named 'Spin'. Further details about the restaurant are expected later this year. The hotel will offer 146 boutique rooms, with 85 of them pitch-facing, along with high-tech hospitality suites. The rooftop venue will provide panoramic views of the ground and the Birmingham skyline.
The design is centered around Radisson RED's signature 'laid-back luxury' finish, aiming for an informal and social setting that transitions seamlessly from day to night. The hotel's public spaces, including the open lobby, communal working areas, and multi-use hospitality suites, will be open to the public, embracing the culture and people of Edgbaston and Birmingham.
Redevelopment progress and community impact
The multi-million pound project, part-funded by a £17.3m investment from the West Midlands Combined Authority, began with the demolition of the Raglan and Priory Stands in November 2025. It has now entered its final construction stages. Upon completion, the stadium will become a multi-use destination for sport, hospitality, residential, commercial, and community activities, operating as a social hub all year round.
This phase focuses on increasing accessibility, constructing a new 3,200-seater stand with a covered concourse, returning the stadium's capacity to just under 25,000. The hotel is projected to host over 60,000 guests annually.
Economic benefits and legacy
Edgbaston Stadium currently contributes approximately £35 million to the local economy each year. The new development is expected to raise this to over £40 million, and over £70 million in a Cricket World Cup year, while creating more than 130 new permanent jobs. The Masterplan has already delivered improvements such as a modern pavilion, the award-winning Corkfield apartment complex, and the Skyline rooftop terrace. In 2024, the 'Xcelerate with Edgbaston' training centre launched, offering apprenticeships in partnership with Levy UK + Ireland.
Adam Lowe, Commercial Director at Warwickshire County Cricket Club, said: “The Masterplan development has been 15-years in the making, with Phase One beginning in 2011 delivering the start of Edgbaston Stadium’s modernisation. Phase Three sees us complete the full destination offer – a world-class sporting venue, a globally-recognised hotel, a premium hospitality offering with ‘Spin’, award-winning residential apartments, and an abundance of commercial opportunities for local, regional and national businesses.”
Lowe added: “The reveal of these designs is a landmark moment in this project as we start to bring to life what has been discussed for several years. This is the start of a really exciting chapter for Edgbaston and Warwickshire. To be launching in time for the Ashes next year will be a momentous occasion for the club, putting us and Birmingham right at the forefront of the world’s sporting stage.”
