On Friday, May 15, the FCDO shared information around drone regulations in China. It said: “The import, possession and use of drones and drone components are strictly regulated. Contact the Civil Aviation Administration of China before travel for the latest rules regarding registration and use.”
Finland Border and Drone Incidents
The FCDO also shared the addition of information about drone incidents and updated information about the Russian border crossing for Finland tourists and visitors. It said: “Some Ukrainian drones aimed at Russia have crossed into Finnish territory. Follow official guidance as necessary.”
It went on: “FCDO currently advises against all travel to Russia. All border crossing points on the land border between Finland and Russia will remain closed until further notice. Monitor the Finnish Border Guard website for details of border closures with Russia. Access to areas close to the border is controlled and a border zone permit issued by the Finnish Border Guard is required. Follow the instructions of the Finnish authorities if you are in this area. The border crossing points for maritime traffic at Haapasaari, the port of Nuijamaa and Santio will be closed to leisure boating until further notice.”
Context of Ukrainian Drone Attacks
It comes as Ukraine has launched a large-scale long-range drone attack targeting several regions in Russia including the huge Ryazan oil refinery. The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, visiting the site of the destroyed apartment block in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, on the left bank of the Dnipro River, placed flowers and spoke to rescue workers. “Our first responders ... worked non-stop for more than a day,” Zelenskyy said on the Telegram app. “The Russians practically levelled an entire section of the building with their missile,” he said.
